GAO found weaknesses in OPM and OPM OIG controls for verifying provider eligibility in the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program, allowing potentially ineligible providers to participate. GAO analysis identified claims linked to hundreds of deceased providers and thousands of additional potentially ineligible providers, and recommended additional actions to reduce risk and improve oversight.
