GAO: HUD Cut Its Workforce 29 Percent in 2025, Mostly Through Deferred Resignation

A GAO report finds HUD reduced its workforce by 29 percent in 2025 and changed the types of programs it funds in response to presidential directives. Most reductions came through deferred resignation, and over half of those who left had at least 10 years of HUD service. GAO also notes HUD did not publish notice of any reorganization plans.
