GAO: OPM Needs Improvements to PLUM Data Transparency for Senior Policy and Support Positions

GAO reviewed OPM’s PLUM Reporting website, which lists politically appointed and career senior positions across executive branch agencies, and found improvements are needed to increase transparency and usefulness of the data. As of July 2025, PLUM reported 10,540 positions across 171 federal entities.
