GAO reports VA’s Beneficiary Travel Program had about $1 billion in estimated improper payments from FY2018–FY2024 and identified 10 adjudicated fraud cases involving at least 892 fraudulent claims totaling at least $219,000. GAO says further improvements are needed to better manage fraud risks and strengthen program integrity.
