GAO reports that VA spends hundreds of millions annually to purchase and maintain high-tech medical equipment and often relies on manufacturer maintenance services through agencywide or stand-alone contracts. GAO found opportunities for VA to improve its acquisition approach to better leverage buying power and help ensure equipment is safely maintained for veteran care.
