A GAO audit found cases where health care providers flagged as ineligible were still able to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program. GAO warned this creates patient safety risks and increases the potential for improper payments and fraud, urging stronger controls to prevent ineligible providers from billing FEHB plans.
