OPM begins implementing retirement fix for federal first responders injured on the job

OPM is moving to implement the First Responders Fair RETIRE Act, signed in 2022, which protects special retirement coverage for federal first responders who must transfer jobs due to injury. The change helps ensure affected employees can remain on accelerated mandatory retirement schedules rather than losing eligibility because of a reassignment.
