Report: 17 veterans died by suicide per day in 2023; most were not in VA care in their final year

A new VA report finds an average of 17 veterans died by suicide per day in 2023. More than half of those who died had not received VA health care in the year before their death, underscoring ongoing gaps in access to and engagement with mental health and suicide-prevention services.
