The Department of Veterans Affairs has been granted authority to appoint legal guardians for veterans who are hospitalized in VA facilities and unable to make decisions or transition to appropriate long-term care settings. VA officials say the change will streamline placement and care decisions for hundreds of impaired veterans who currently face delays due to guardianship barriers.
